Composer: Omar García Ruiz

2016, 2017

In March 2016, the composer Omar García visited me for the first time to review his
pieces.

Omar García Ruiz composed the merengue El Rezongón in 1989, dedicated to the flutist from El Cuarteto, Toñito Naranjo. The piece was recorded on an El Cuarteto album and became very popular. The merengue had been transcribed from the album version, and the composer gave us several important corrections for El Libro Real.

It was thanks to the efforts of our colleague Carlos García Carbó that we were able to meet Omar García. With his deep knowledge of the Venezuelan musical scene, he put us in touch with this fascinating composer.

Mr. García brought us an unpublished pasaje titled Mi llanerita, which we liked very much and also included. On another visit, he brought us a newly composed merengue dedicated to Mark Brown, titled Merengueando, which is also featured in El Libro Real.
